FIEVel (Fast InExpensive Velocimeter) is a low-cost fluid velocity sensor that leverages optical mouse sensor technology to measure two-axis fluid flow at rates up to 6.6 kHz. This high sampling rate enables detailed turbulence analysis in fast-moving flows. Built from a 3D printed body, M12 webcam lens, and mouse sensor breakout board, FIEVel tracks suspended particles to deliver precise measurements at a fraction of traditional velocimeter costs. Total assembly cost of FIEVel is under $100.
